Stronger Starts Retail Apprentices at TESCO. Applications for September 2026 are now open! With our Stronger Starts Retail Apprenticeship, you’ll get a full-time job, earning £23,662.08 (pro rata), as well as a Level 2 National Standard in Retail qualification. You could even become a Shift Leader at the end of your 12-month apprenticeship (length will depend on your contracted hours). All you need is the drive and commitment to succeed, and we’ll support you with hands-on experience and structured learning.

The work you do here matters- it helps customers, supports your team, and builds skills that can shape your future. Shifts typically last 8-9 hours, including weekends, early mornings and evenings. The work can be physically demanding and lifting will be required. We won’t pretend it’s easy, but you’ll learn how to work independently and adaptably, and your effort will make a real difference.

Information about the scheme

You’ll gain hands-on experience of how a store operates, and see how different departments work together to keep things running smoothly. This will help you develop essential teamwork and communication skills, while understanding the day-to-day operations of a busy retail environment. Information about the scheme.

Salary: Salary of £23,662.08 pro rata.

Hours: You have the option to choose between 36, 28 and 21 hour contracts when applying

Holiday: 20 days pro rata plus a personal day and bank holidays, rising to 22 days after 12 months (pro rata)

A variety of roles 

  • No two days are the same.
  • You’ll have the opportunity to experience different roles and tasks across the store.
  • One day, you might be picking online shopping orders, and the next, you could be stocking F&F clothing.
  • Every role is centred around our customers to give them the best possible service.

Lots of learning

  • As part of the programme, you may also need to gain Maths and English qualifications called Functional Skills, which are equivalent to GCSEs. These are completed in-store as part of your daily work, so you can learn and earn at the same time.
